David Cantando, Manager of the Concord Hilton, sent this message to Rotarians and community:
Earlier today I received an email from a gentleman by the name of Thomas Hughes, a private citizen who was a volunteer during last year’s presidential campaign. He received an email from the Obama Administration about holding a White House Jobs Forum in communities throughout the country and was interested in participating in one. He inquired and found that there was no event planned for Contra Costa County. He then decided to see if he could put one together and contacted me.
Since our business and that of most other companies in Contra Costa County has been hurt very badly by this recession and the stigma that has been placed on corporate travel and entertaining, the Hilton will donate the use of its ballroom so that we can have a Jobs Forum in Contra Costa County and send our feedback to Washington.
This will be a non-partisan event. The ballroom will be set up and doors opened at 5PM next Thursday, December 10th. The program will start at 6PM. We will be set with rounds of 10 and will be able to accommodate 400 guests. We intend to open the evening with remarks by qualified economists/businesspersons describing the situation in Contra Costa County today and projected for the next year. A moderator would then invite a representative from each table to come to the stage to speak for 2 minutes, summarizing the discussion and conclusions arrived at by the group at their table. We intend to either record or transcribe the comments. We would then somehow summarize the common threads and perhaps have a question and answer period. The event will be over by 9PM.

Congrats to the Hilton for stepping up. Too bad the local Obama rep could not call the local Chambers of Commerce. Oops, they opposed the $787 BILLION boondogle stimulus and now are persona non grata. How’s that lack of partisanship Obama promised doing for you?
The only truth that needs to come out of such a meeting is Obama’s FAILED Stimulus is a joke, a slush fund for politicians, government employees, programs, and unions.
The only message we need to send to Washington is to freeze stimulus money that has not been spent yet and redirect it to the private sector; create business tax incentives; not allow George W. Bush’s tax cuts to expire at the end of 2010; ditch the phomey “cap-and-trade’’ legislation an AB 32 based on fraudulent climate change data.
Use the stimulus to put America back to work instead of using it as a political political slush fund doled out by gangsters from Chicago.
