After watching the two latest twists in the Republican Freak show, South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford’s tryst in Argentina and Nevada Senator John Ensign’s affairs with a staffer; for the life of me I cannot figure out what the Republican Party stands for any more.
We used to be the party of fiscal responsibility and balanced budgets? Well George W. Bush and the Republican Congress fucked that one up.
We used to be the party of sound foreign policy and national defense? On every level the foreign policy of the last Republican administration has been a failure, Iraq, North Korea, and Iran come to mind. And God help us if Pakistan fails.
We claimed to be for family values and solid marriages. The messages I am getting now from my elected Republicans is that we are now for open marriages but of course only between a man and a woman.
And, so far, I am only talking about the National Republicans. On the state and local levels the Republican Party in California and in Contra Costa County has been run into the ground by issue nuts and ideologues. If you want to see a freak show attend a Contra Costa Central Committee meeting. Scary!
So I have to say that at this point anyone who believes in the Republican Party is either brain dead or in need of deep psychotherpy.

Larry Craig is a Gay man pretending to be a Gay Hateing Conservative Republican. He is one messed up cookie. Just come out of the closet Larry.
You seem to forget that whole Senator Craig thing where it was him and the occupant of the next stall with or without a wide stance.

To the Editor:
The heavy hand of political and economic repression has become the trademark of both major political parties.
The Democrats want to tax us out of our homes and spend all of our personal income on wars and government entitlements (like Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid). All of this taxing and spending are bankrupting America.
The Republicans don’t like taxation, but they, at the national level, run up huge deficits. Under George W. Bush, the national debt went from $5 trillion to $10 trillion.
Republicans want to interfere with such personal matters as abortion.
During the administrations of Richard Nixon and George W. Bush, reporters who refused to divulge their sources of information went to jail. Judith Miller of The New York Times is an example.
Republicans, like the Democrats, are pawns of the military-industrial complex.
In his book, “The Making of the President 1960, ” Theodore H. White defined the two major parties.
Democrats, White said, see government as a force for achieving social and economic goals.
Republicans, according to White, believe that the individual has a responsibility to himself and his community that is as great as — if not greater than — his responsibility to the federal government.
Now, almost 50 years after the 1960 election, America has two political parties that appear to be different but, in fact, are replicas of each other.
This duopoly has produced a weak dollar, huge unemployment, massive debt (over $11 trillion), bankrupt businesses (such General Motors, Citibank, and American Insurance Group), and disappearing prosperity.
The Republicans and the Democrats have made America a Third World country.
