East Bay businesses and cities that have been sites or planned locations for for upcoming Open Carry demonstrations are pushing back with policies denying firearms on their premises.

See SFGate coverage, including statements from Peet’s Tea.

Concerning the planned February 6 demo at the California Pizza Kitchen (CPK), located in Walnut Creek on North Main across from the Apple and Barnes and Nobles, a CPK spokesman told BANG reporters BANG reporters, “California Pizza Kitchen does not allow guests other than uniformed officers to display firearms in our restaurants.”

The Walnut Creek Chamber of Commerce asked the City of Walnut Creek to clarify the rights of its business members to refuse service to patrons openly carrying firearms:

We understand that a group of activists may be planning to visit Walnut Creek wearing unloaded firearms as an expression of their rights. You may or may not support this demonstration. However, in response to concerns that have been raised, we have asked the Chief of Police to explain a businessperson’s right to refuse service or entry if they so choose. Attached is the police department’s guide.

In turn, the City of Walnut Creek issued this advisory concerning Open Carry within its jurisdiction.
