Pay some attention to this article about Troubled Tech concepts and business models that probably won’t make it much further into the future.
I especially agree with the the analysis of microblogs (Twitter), social news sites (digg), online video (youtube wannabes), enterprise social networking.
I just don’t get Twitter. I don’t care what you are doing, and can’t understand why I need so many “followers.” It’s a sick business. There is a reason “twit” is in the word. Digg, delicious, and Stumbleupon, I also wish would go away soon, too. As a PR professional watching this stuff you get to peak behind the curtain a little bit. Digg especially is nothing but gaming the system. In fact, businesses actually pay experts to game Digg to get their news some traction. Besides, mobs don’t verify the veracity of information, they only indicate some fool thinks it’s important.
This is not to say that once the funding dries up for these nut cases there won’t be fifty more to burn through serious VC money.
