Town Hall to address Bay Point annexation to Pittsburg, Mar 18
March 10, 2008
The future and character of Bay Point will be strongly impacted by two topics that will be discussed at the next Bay Point Town Hall to be held by Supervisor Federal Glover. The Town Hall will be held March 18 at 7:00 p.m. at the Ambrose Recreation and Park District Center (Dining room), located at 3105 Willow Pass Road, in Bay Point.
At the Town Hall, John Greitzer of the county’s Community Development staff will present the plan for the use of the Port Chicago Mitigation Funds. With accumulated interest, the mitigation fund’s original sum of $5 million has grown to $8.6 million.
Another topic is the possibility that Bay Point be annexed by the City of Pittsburg which would allow the unincorporated community retain its identity as Bay Point. County and City of Pittsburg staff will address the concerns of the proposal initiated by a group of Bay Point residents calling itself the Residents for A Better Bay Point.
Glover emphasized he has not taken a position on the annexation. “I will support whichever direction the residents of Bay Point want to go,” said Glover. For more info call: 925-427-8138

Amazing the Supervisor is having this meeting without inviting the founders of Residents for A Better Bay Point to his meeting. He has only met with us 1 time in the 14 months we have been working on this and has helped delay numbers from staff. Anyone wanting truth about why this was started and where we are today should want to talk to the founders of the movement Steve Hoagland or Norma Seigfried. Ask the Supervisor the last time he spoke with either of us about this important issue. Ask him why he did not invite us to attend the meeting. Ask him why he has not helped gather information about the budget of Bay Point. Ask him to explain the false overblown numbers provided at the last minute without comment at the public meeting. Ask him why he does not return emails from the founder of this movement.
John Greitzer of the county’s Community Development staff will present the plan for the use of the Port Chicago Mitigation Funds. The fund was established when the U.S. Navy closed Port Chicago Highway and was meant to facilitate east-west travel between Bay Point and areas west of the community. With accumulated interest, the mitigation fund’s original sum of $5 million has grown to $8.6 million.
“With the assistance of County staff, Supervisor Glover and I have identified some very viable and useful road and trail improvement projects that we are excited about, and looking forward to seeing and enjoying in the near future,” said Supervisor Susan Bonilla, Contra Costa County District IV Supervisor.
