Poulos defies State GOP rules

Contra Costa GOP, Tom Del Beccaro, Republican Party, California, Contra Costa County, politics, bylaws

Here is an update to the post about County GOP violations of its own bylaws. Ken Hambrick, an elected committee person to the Contra Costa Republican Party sent a letter to State Party leaders and former Chair, Tom Del Beccaro. Hambrick alleges rules violations that keeps former Chairperson Tom Del Beccaros’s admirers—who could not win election to the Central Committee in March—in power.

Observers say this is just another episode of Del Beccaro trying to stack the committee to game support for re-election to the State Party’s #2 spot.

Hambrick’s letter documented how Greg Poulos and others were appointed to leadership positions in violation of the organization’s bylaws.

Surprisingly, the only response Hambrick has received is from Greg Poulos, the illegally placed Chair and Del Beccaro supporter. Poulos avers that Hambrick has simply misconstrued what had transpired when Poulos was appointed Chairperson of the Central Committee.

Hambrick has not yet heard from any State Party officials addressed in the original complaint, including: Ron Nehring (Chair), Keith Carlson (Treasurer), Steve Baric (Treasurer), and Luis Buhler (Bay Area Vice-Chair).

Hambrick, in his response to Poulos, wonders why Poulos responded and corrects Poulos’ whitewash of the proceedings in question.

Finally, documents from the CCRP Rules Committee shed light on the status of Hambrick’s complaint regarding how vacancies are to be filled prior to election of a chairperson. To wit:

1. Vacancies do not exist until a committee organizes
2. Vacancies have to be filled according to the bylaws
3. Members cannot be appointed until there is a committee to appoint them, and then only as provided for in the bylaws.

An unnamed source who observed the organizational meeting says, “It’s clear that Tom Del Beccaro still wants to be the puppet master. He brought in his own ‘parliamentarian’ from Ventura County, for heaven’s sake (blogger Stephen Frank) to OK whatever rule changes Tom wanted to sneak past the new members of the committee. All so he could get his little gang in place to support his career in the State Party.

‘It appears the Republican Central Committee is more interested in furthering Tom Del Beccaro’s career than it is in winning elections in Contra Costa County.

“How sick is that?”

Why should the local GOP want a change in leadership? Didn’t Obama carry our county by more than a 2 – 1 margin? Didn’t the GOP lose it’s only local seat in Sacramento? It’s possible that every Republican left in the county was among the dozen or so protesters outside Mr. Ayres’ lecture at St. Mary’s. Why would they want a change in leadership? They certainly didn’t want a change in 2004 when George Herbert Hoover Bush was leading us down a path toward fiscal, economic and diplomatic disaster. Seems like things are going the way they like so why change?

Thank you, Ken, the professional manner in which you are pursuing this issue. Your thorough research, courage and resolve are laudable . . . plus, it helps that you have the FACTS on your side!

Our party needs more people, like you, who are willing to risk conflict with the powerful, in pursuit of doing what’s right. Ultimately, truth always prevails. Keep up your good work.

Freak is right. The Ayers protest is just another strip of red meat for the septuagenarian ladies that make up TBD’s core base, cause no one else pays attention to him or his BS. I bet Tom had to draw a picture so Poulos could figure out why he needed to appear to be leading that parade. LOL

Now are they calling other members to have calm grown-up conversations? OR…are they doing what they do best, calling fellow Republican volunteers and berating them into submission? There is a big difference. Remember, you are not allowed to air your own opinions or you will receive the wrath of certain members.

It’s hard to tell at times if this is Contra Costa County or Chicago politics. Keep up the good work Ken, please do not back down. This is being closely followed by many key Republicans throughout the state.

Ken Hambrick is striking fear into the Contra Costa Republican Party apparatchiks. To the point where the beloved leader’s toadies are now calling central committee members and whipping them into line to ignore the efforts to find out who on the central committee feels that the appointment of Greg Poulos as chair is a shame.

Funny but what are they afraid of? Let Hambrick get a ruling from the state GOP. After all are not Republicans for the rule of law? But what do I know. After all when there is an election that could go a long way towards creating a Republican bench in Contra Costa County the Central committee is plotting to have their Rush Limbaugh moment up at St Mary’s College protesting Bill Aires. I say big deal. What is the point of a political party if it does not try to engage and develop a viable electable Republicans?

Frankly the cabal that runs the Contra Costa Republican Party is irrelevant. They are rubble of a party that is more of a joke than a force in this county. If nothing else their parlor intrigues are nothing more than entertainment for us to write and laugh about.
