So what do you want for Christmas, little girl? Santa had his hands full on Saturday at Todos Santos Plaza, as hundreds of families lined up before Christrmas to get pictures taken with Santa. Apparently some adults wanted to sit on Santa’s knee for the photo more than the kids as pictured nearby. Gives new meaning to naughty or nice.

Concord to install parking sensors at Todos Santos Plaza, Jul 30

On Wednesday July 30th the City of Concord will be installing 36 wireless parking sensors to the short (30 minute & 15 minute) term and handicapped spaces in the Todos Santos Square area. Currently the plan is to block off the spaces all day. The goal is to work with the vendor to complete the spaces on Salvio between Grant and Mt. Diablo first, then to get as many of the handicapped spaces completed and available for use.

Phase I of the project will provide the Parking Services Unit of the Concord Police Department data regarding space utilization. Information from the sensors about utilization and length of stay will provide valuable usage information to the Concord Police Department and City officials as they make decisions about parking policies and development in the area. The survey service is designed to electronically monitor the handicapped and short-term spaces around the plaza on a 24/7 basis, enabling Concord Police Department officials to access real-time and historical reports of space usage.

Phase II of the project will provide parking enforcement capabilities. The enforcement service described in this proposal will help maximize the efficiency of the Police Department’s parking services officer(s) by eliminating the need for tire chalking in the short-term spaces. This should ultimately result in better turnover of downtown parking and improved adherence to time limits.

Concordstock to break Guinness guitar ensemble world record, Jul 1

Register now to join over 2,000 guitar strumming enthusiasts as the City of Concord attempts to break the world record for largest guitar ensemble, Jul 1 at Todos Santos Plaza, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Help smash the current Guinness World Record of 1,802 for Largest Guitar Ensemble as folk-rock luminary Country Joe McDonald, leads the crowd in singing Woody Guthrie’s This Land is Your Land (Key of G). Country Joe will stay with for the inaugural performance of Concord’s brand new Tuesday evening series, Acoustic Tuesdays, July 1-29, 6:30 pm-8 pm.

Concord lingerie shops serves as local host for model search

Sarah’s Bare Necessities on Adobe Street in Concord, is partnering with Shirley of Hollywood’s Sexy Model Search campaign this Summer. According to Kara Butler (pictured above), owner of Bare Necessities, it’s a great way for models of all shapes and sizes to get started in the industry.

Two winners — one missy-size Shirley model and one Intimate Attitudes plus-size model — will be announced at the end of September 2008. Homeless leave Baldwin Park; head downtown

The picture above shows workers hauling trash away from Baldwin Park after Loaves and Fishes closed its doors at St Michaels’ in Concord April 30. The detritus included mattresses, sleeping bags, bicycles, golf clubs, tents, old tires, and more. Go figure. Sources at Concord PD deny urban legend now circulating that suggests some Baldwin Walk residents were “encouraged” to help clean up the mess.

Although the park is clean and safer now, there are still some regulars who did not get the memo or still think that Baldwin Park is the place to hook up with their dealer.

Meanwhile, the rule of unintended consequences has dropped by for a not unexpected visit as the homeless clearly believe that Todos Santos Park is now the cool place to hang out in the morning for cigarettes and coffee by the band stand. Looks like Concord forgot to put in a bike rack.

Concord churches celebrate World Communion Sunday at Todos Santos Plaza, Oct 7

The public is invited to a community wide worship service to be held at Todos Santos Plaza in Concord, on Sunday, October 7, beginning at 5:00 p.m. The service celebrates World Communion Sunday. The event is organized by over 20 churches in the greater Concord area.
