Kiwanis & NBC food drive, Nov 22

On Saturday, November 22 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., NBC Bay Area Chief Meteorologist John Farley brings his Holiday Food Drive to Bay Area Lucky locations. NBC Bay Area and Bay Area Kiwanis volunteers will collect food and money to benefit local food banks at Lucky Supermarket. Generous donors can purchase a special $10 & $20 bag filled with nutritious groceries. The Kiwanis Clubs throughout Contra Costa County will be collecting donations at SaveMart and Lucky stores this Saturday and delivering the donations to the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano.

Schedule for 22nd Annual Hospice Tree of Lights

Hospice of the East Bay invites the public to participate in its 22nd annual Tree of Lights ceremonies to be held in 15 locations throughout Contra Costa in November and December. Each light on every tree is symbolic of a life and will shine in honor or memory of a friend or family member. Please join any of the commemorative ceremonies to enjoy music, poetry, talks by local dignitaries and the special moment when the tree lights up. Endorsements bolster campaigns — maybe

One supposes that campaign endorsements from muckymucks higher up the political food chain can help build credibility for one’s campaign. I’m not so sure, especially when it’s the same folks that created the existing mess. Sounds like a promise of more of the same, if you ask me. But I see that Lisa Vorderbrueggen and I had the same idea as she picked up the news from Joan Buchanan, Democrat Assembly 15 candidate, when her campaign announced she was endorsed by Stockton Mayor, Ed Chavez, a Republican. As Paul Harvey, Jr., is wont to hoot, “Now that’s News!” Now I get these same e-mails and was waiting for a journalistic epiphany of “man bites dog” newsworthiness. But, alas, I guess Ed Chavez was it. How disappointing. That said, here is a roundup of other campaign endorsement announcements from various campaigns around the County:

Republican Mayor of San Ramon, Abram Wilson, who also is running for the Assembly 15 seat has recently announced a host of purportedly influential endorsements from the Contra Costa Times and the Stockton Record. Wilson also announced support from San Joaquin County Supervisors, Livermore Democrats, and bipartisan support of the San Ramon City Council and leaders throughout the Diablo Valley, Brentwood, Oakley, Pleasant Hill, and Walnut Creek.

Meanwhile, Allen Payton’s campaign for Mayor of Antioch, announced the support of two-term Assemblyman Guy Houston (AD15).

Wilson charges Buchanan with Peripheral Canal double speak

The political he-said she-said carnage continues in the Assembly 15 race as the campaign of Republican Abram Wilson issues a video clip that purports to document
Democrat Joan Buchanan’s support for the Peripheral Canal. During a recent candidate debate, moderated by Lisa Vorderbrueggen, Buchanan denied the charge, but Wilson waved a piece of paper as proof and now has produced this video clip as documentation.

Charges fly in Assembly 15 race

Democrat Joan Buchanan’s campaign for Assembly seat 15 issued a vague e-mail blast Tuesday afternoon crying foul against Republican Abram Wilson’s campaign. The e-mail cites a close Buchanan supporter who charges Wilson with using a recent mailing and robocall to spread false charges against Buchanan’s actions as a San Ramon School Board Member. Buchanan’s e-mail seems to purposely leave out what he said she said. “Not so fast,” says Wilson’s campaign, who say it is a matter of public record that Buchanan voted to allow San Ramon students access to sex, drug, and hate websites, as well as allow R-rated films to be shown in class rooms. Furthermore, sources familiar with the Wilson campaign say, both the Contra Costa Times and Grand Jury back up Wilson’s charge that Ms. Buchanan “actively misinformed the public and mishandled Measure D school bond monies.”

Buchanan Assembly campaign wins California small business endorsement
