Our friend, Gregg Feere, of the Contra Costa Building and Construction Trades Council, Ccd us in an e-mail concerning Nicole Goehring’s recent appearance at a Contra Costa Taxpayers breakfast meeting that we had posted as a calendar item:

“I see that you (CoCo Tax) had an anti-project labor agreement presentation from Nicole Goehring of the Associated Builders and Contractors. As far as I know Ms Goehring has never participated in an apprenticeship program, never worked on a construction site, and has no construction contracting experience. For that matter I don’t know if she’s ever been on a construction site. That being said I am attaching the latest unbiased report on project labor agreements which totally contradicts Ms Goehring’s statements. Enjoy the reading!

Contra Costa Taxpayers discuss project labor agreements, Sept 26

Nicole Goehring of the Associated Builders and Contractors Association will discuss Project Labor Agreements (PLAs) at the September 26th breakfast meeting of the Contra Costa Taxpayers Association. Meet Tomi Van de Brooke, Supervisor Piepho’s new Chief of Staff

Dogged by staff turnover, Supervisor Mary Piepho (D-3) has a new Chief of Staff, former Republican Tomi Van de Brooke. Tomi, a past president of the Contra Costa Council, previously worked for the California Alliance for Jobs, which represents more than 1,700 heavy construction companies and 50,000 union construction workers from Kern County to the Oregon border.

Van de Brooke, now a Democrat, is rumored to be chatting up a Project Labor Agreement (PLA) for the Community College District on which she serves with Mary Piepho’s estranged brother, John Nejedly, who has sued Mary and their other brother over the family inheritance.

While Tomi has been introduced at some public meetings, her name and title appear nowhere on the Supervisor’s site or in memos sent from Piepho’s office. Perhaps news of Piepho—increasingly seen as a “DeSaulnier-Republican”—hiring a Democrat that is open to PLAs as Chief of Staff might come as disturbing news to the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC).
