The mailer touts Glover’s “ability” to “deliver,” whatever that means; maybe it’s some sort of “pork barrel politics” for County Supervisors? Anyways the mailer touts teeachers backing Glover, not Agopian, who is a Antioch School Board member.

Agopian’s campaign asked, “One has to wonder why the big oil companies are spending close to four-hundred thousand dollars to elect their candidate. What are they expecting in return?

“The Glover campaign with the latest hit piece has stepped right in the middle of negotiations for teachers’ salaries and work related issues in Antioch. We worked for four years and made the tough choices to balance our budget and protect our children’s future. Now we have to contend with Supervisor Glover getting in the middle of this non-county issue and linking up with those who have their own agenda. It is deplorable.

“We don’t have the money that Glover has and can’t respond to his hit pieces, but he should be ashamed of himself. Things are difficult enough without him trying to make it a political issue.”

According to Agopian, “all of the people mentioned in Glover’s hit piece are members of the teachers’ negotiating team or on the executive board of the bargaining unit and do not reflect the opinion of over 900 other teachers regarding Gary Agopian.”

Property tax assessments for the 2008-2009 fiscal year reinforce the bleak picture that has been painted over the past 12 months of declining home prices caused by the mortgage meltdown, loan defaults and foreclosures.

“If Brown were to opt out of running for reelection, Canciamilla would be the first - but almost assuredly not the last - Democrat to explore running. No Republican has announced themselves as a candidate, though the 2006 nominee, former Sen. Chuck Poochigian, still has an active campaign account.

“As attorney general, Canciamilla said he would focus on getting back “to the basics.”

“That includes, he said, “relationships with local governments, crime prevention, protecting seniors, reducing the amount of white collar crime,” among other priorities. The challenge, he said, is “how we do that with less money and fewer resources.”

This sad event throws into doubt the status of the runoff election; whether Nunn would remain on the ballot or not. One source indicated that Section 8807 of California’s Election Code indicates that if a vacancy occurs for a non-partisan race, regardless of when the vacancy occurs, the next highest vote recipient’s name, in this case Gary Agopian, would appear on the ballot. Not only does the Redevelopment Agency want to take the property for a low ball price cooked up by its own appraiser,
it wants Marine to fork over the cleanup costs!

Pittsburg wants to fold the three acres into a 33 acre development. The only potential bid so far is for marine-office-residential use. Marine Express operates a marine services company that repairs deep water ships that is in line with Pittsburg’s stated goals there. In fact, according to the Contra Costa Times, Marine Services has submitted a cleanup plan that has already been approved by the regional water board.

The lawyer for Marine Services asked what must have been a rhetorical question when he moaned, “We’re at a loss why they’re asserting any of this now.”

Supervisor Glover is asking the policing agencies in the 5th Supervisorial District to be on the look out for these vandals and to investigate the stealing of his signs.

Supervisor Glover asked that local website newspapers alert residents to be on the look out for vandals who obviously have a political motive behind their efforts.
