Lamorinda Republican Women, Federated invites members and the public to its monthly luncheon meeting, Thursday, January 15, 2009 at 11:30 am. The featured speaker is Dave Stirling of the Pacific Legal Foundation, who will discuss: “Green Gone Wild: Elevating Nature Above Human Rights”

Hospice of the East Bay invites the public to participate in its 22nd annual Tree of Lights ceremonies to be held in 15 locations throughout Contra Costa in November and December. Each light on every tree is symbolic of a life and will shine in honor or memory of a friend or family member. Please join any of the commemorative ceremonies to enjoy music, poetry, talks by local dignitaries and the special moment when the tree lights up. Note that The Children’s Tree lighting will be held Sunday, December 14, at 5:00 p.m., at Oak Alley, behind Va de Vi Restaurant, located at 1151 Mt Diablo Blvd, in Walnut Creek,

Senate Democratic hopefuls Canciamilla and DeSaulnier to debate, Oct 19

Former Assemblyman Joe Canciamilla (11th District) and Assemblyman Mark DeSaulnier (11th District), two of the declared candidates for the the Democrat Party nomination for election to the District 7 Senate seat now held by Sen. Tom Torlakson, will appear in a debate on October 19 sponsored by The Lamorinda Democratic Club. Because voter registration in the district comprising most of Contra Costa County is drawn to heavily favor Democrats, the winner of the June 2008 Primary will likely win the seat in the November general election.

Orinda Mayor defends Eureka developer in Humboldt shoving match

The Humboldt Herald reports that Orinda Mayor, Steven Glazer, has turned Spin Doctor for Eureka developer Rob Arkley amid a police investigation of a shoving match between Arkley and Eureka City Councilman Larry Glass, during a September 5 reception for the California Coastal Commission.

Locals report that Glass, who opposes Arkley’s Home-Depot-anchored Marina development project, also accused Arkley of having Glass followed. According to the Herald, “Glazer said he’s worked on Arkley’s “Marina Center” concept for a year and a half, but didn’t witness the September 5 altercation.”
