Walnut Creek data breach makes Google rethink outsourcing data storage

Google last week said that thieves that broke into the offices of Colt Express Outsourcing Services of Walnut Creek, Calif., stole several PCs containing the personal information of Google employees, in addition to personal data of CNET Network, and other clients of Google. Google ended its relationship with Colt on Dec. 31, 2005, but data from employees hired before Jan. 1, 2006, was still with the company. It would not say why.” Go figure. The Walnut Creek break-in shows the critical nature of any outsourcing of storage of sensitive data.

Diablo Valley Pastors sponsor Doing Justice conference, May 9-10

The Diablo Valley Pastors of Central Contra Costa County will sponsor a two-day conference, May 9-10, on Doing Justice. To be held at the Hope Center in Pleasant Hill (Taylor @ Morello), the conference will help area churches and individuals learn about how to make a difference in their respective communities. Gary Hausen will keynote; and be joined by community pastors: Mark Labberton (1st Presbyterian, Berkeley), Ricky Jenkins (Emmanuel, Oakland) and performing artist, Justin McRoberts and his band.

The Mt Diablo Housing Opportunity Center will offer a housing fair, November 10, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at the cafeteria of Diablo Valley College, located at 321 Golf Club Road in Pleasant Hill.
