Halfway To Concord is happy to post Calendar items for non-profit fundraising, community, and political events. To that end we experiment here with a new Web 2.0 tech from Yahoo called UPCOMING. Essentially, you visit http://upcoming.yahoo.com, then you can publish news about your own upcoming events and refer to them on UPCOMING site on your own site if you want. You could also check on upcoming events listed in other cities or regions to help plan a vacation. So check it out and let us know what you think. We are going to play around with this to see how to best make it work for our readership.

Comedy night at 1515 in Walnut Creek to benefit Arts Access, Jul 25

Join the Diablo Young Executives for a fantastic night of comedy featuring Daniel ‘MC” Edwards, Andrew Norelli, David VanAvermaete, and Karen Smyth, at 1515 Restaurant & Lounge in Walnut Creek. Order your tickets early as seating is limited. Come early for dinner any time after 6:00 p.m. and enjoy the show at 8:00pm. Your ticket to this event provides admission to the VIP room where the event will be held, where you can purchase dinner and drinks. Reservations will be held at the door.

All proceeds benefit Arts Access, the outreach program of the Lesher Center for the Arts. Administered by the Diablo Regional Arts Association (DRAA), Arts Access makes the arts accessible to individuals challenged by physical, socio-economic, or geographic barriers. Arts Access has a special focus on youth and last year served more than 4,000 local students.

Muirfest Gala 2008, Jul 3

The MuirFest Gala 2008 will be held, July 3, at the Martinez Waterfront, from 5:00 p.m. til midnight. There will be a live and silent auction, catered dinner and drinks, enjoy the MuirFest Musical Celebration, post-show reception with dessert and dancing. Proceeds support the Willows Theater and its programs. $100 per guest. Call 925-798-1300.

Concordstock to break Guinness guitar ensemble world record, Jul 1

Register now to join over 2,000 guitar strumming enthusiasts as the City of Concord attempts to break the world record for largest guitar ensemble, Jul 1 at Todos Santos Plaza, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Help smash the current Guinness World Record of 1,802 for Largest Guitar Ensemble as folk-rock luminary Country Joe McDonald, leads the crowd in singing Woody Guthrie’s This Land is Your Land (Key of G). Country Joe will stay with for the inaugural performance of Concord’s brand new Tuesday evening series, Acoustic Tuesdays, July 1-29, 6:30 pm-8 pm.

- First 2,000 to register and come to the plaza with their guitar, receive a FREE “I Was There” commemorative tee
