The Salted Pig and the Shady Lady Saloon are appropriate names for restaurants where Assemblywoman Susan Bonilla (D-Concord), used campaign funds to for meals (Contra Costa Times, Sun., Feb. 24). According to the Times, Bonilla, using campaign funds, consumed 62 meals at a cost of over $11,000.
If a person were to give Bonilla campaign money because the Assemblywoman supported using government funds to feed hungry children, the donor should get his money back.
Alternatively, Bonilla should have used her extra campaign money to support causes like the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano.
During the same month, Bonilla approved supported giving members of the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County a 60 percent pay raise. In January 2007, Bonilla became a member of the Board of Supervisors.
If Bonilla ever has to appear before St. Peter, he might tell her she cannot be admitted to heaven because she failed to help the needy when she could have done so.
