small and medium size business online spending

The nearby chart shows the percentage of small businesses in the Boston market that publish a web site. Double the percentage number to see the average monthly dollar amount each category spends on online advertising. It’s interesting to see the synchronicity of the percentage of businesses with web properties and the dollar amounts.

Obviously some local small businesses don’t need to invest that significantly in online advertising, like Joe Cheeley at the Mane Gallery, downtown Concord. Of course, local real estate and automobile spending dominates local online marketing. maybe even $10K per month. Still, the study indicates that even a modest investment of just $150 focused on local search would double or possibly triple the average local online ad spend to help build brand dominance in your market online.
