The Whitehouse today unveiled details of President Obama’s promise of government-backed warranties for cars purchased from failed automakers including GM and Chrysler.
Following Obama’s announcement March 30, purchasers of qualified automobiles will have their warranties covered by Medicare that will administrate warranty claims and record owner compliance in providing (now government) required maintenance schedules for oil and lube changes as well as tire pressure.
To qualify for the program, consumers must purchase specially designed tires so Medicare, waving all HIPPA regulations, can track air pressure as well as mileage using embedded GPS tracking systems developed by DARPA.
Dealers will need to provide Federal Marshals triplicate documentation for all warranty repairs. Medicare will vet all billing to make sure consumers were not overcharged, as well as be a single source for all reimbursements to warranty claimants.
Both dealers and independent auto shops must become certified Medicare providers to be eligible for the program.
