Just a question. What would it take to effectively replace the CCRP with something more in tune with the local party members? I’m a bit of a political newbie, but I’d like to see things change and am willing to help where I can.

Ted,

One gets an impression that those in the Alameda GOP who voted against gun rights (i.e., in favor of AB 962) may have done so as a result of GOP groupthink. One should never underestimate the power of herd mentality — which, sadly, is alive in well in GOP central committee oganizations throughout the state.

The proponents of the anti-war resolution (with whom I have disagreed elsewhere on these pages) are used by the GOP as a convenient bogeyman to garner support for the autocratic, old-boys-network CRP power stucture (Nehring, Del Beccaro, et. al.).

Only the uninformed or simply foolish fall for this malarkey, which serves to divert attention from a failed CRP.

It will be interesting to see how many folks will pony up the cash for next week’s event — which is apparently intended as a last-ditch effort to save the CCRP from drowning in its own red ink.

Low attendance will not be a reflection on the featured guest speaker but, rather, an indicator of the increasing numbers of those who are choosing to vote with their feet and distance themselves from a dysfunctional organization whose incompetence and financial house of cards is an increasing source of embarassment.

Constitutional discussions often degenerate into something akin to trying to logically review a Universal Catechism for all Christians written by and with the Pope when you are a Hindu Scientist raised by a Mormon Cult Leader in exile to Mexico.

It can be rather entertaining for a while but eventually one side or the other starts to gather the hay for the burning at the stake.

Edi—what is interesting is that the group within the Alameda GOP that voted FOR the anti-war resolution were essentially the same members who also voted FOR the pro Second Amendment (anti-AB 962) resolution. The members that voted the opposite direction neither believe in individual Constitutionally-guaranteed rights nor in the principle of following Article I, Section 8, Clause 11 that requires war to be declared by Congress.

It’s quite sad when so-called Republicans cannot understand and uphold the very principles they claim to espouse. I don’t have the Alameda bylaws handy, but they probably include a preamble similar to CCRP’s:

Section 1. The purpose of the Contra Costa Republican Central Committee shall be to support the precepts of our Nation’s Founding Fathers as reflected in the United States Constitution [sic] and the Bill of Rights with particular emphasis upon the rights of the individual, limited governmental powers and equity under the law.

And regarding the photo of Michael Reagan accompanying this story—I hope it isn’t Mr. Reagan’s official publicity still. Pointing the weapon at the photographer (and viewer) portrays disregard for safe firearms handling and the smirk a lack of seriousness about the instrument’s lethality.

This is rather interesting considering the anti-war element that was rejected by the Alameda GOP. Mr. Reagan accused people of treason and wanting them to be placed in a hole, if they say things like the war will not be won in 2005.

Maybe someone from the GOP Party should ask him again if he still holds those views about his fellow Republicans, but wait maybe you should first check if he is carrying a gun.
