Following through on his interview with the Mormon Times of December 10, 2009, Republican David Harmer, says he will run for California’s 11th Congressional District seat now held by Democrat Jerry McNerney, who defeated Republican Richard Pombo in 2006.
Harmer, recently defeated by Democrat John Garamendi for the CA-10 special election to fill the remaining term of Rep Ellen Tauscher’s after she was appointed to the State Department, told the Mormon Times he was leaning toward running again but in a different district, saying it was his calling as a free American Mormon.
Harmer, who polled 43% of the vote against a career politician and sitting California Lt Governor, joins an already crowded Republican primary field including: Tony Amador, Robert Beadles, Elizabeth Emken, Brad Goehring, Larry Pegram, and Jeff Takada.
Betting on his high name ID and relatively strong showing v. Garamendi, Harmer ironically must now face his own criticism leveled against Garamendi (Walnut Grove, CA) for running from outside the district. Now Harmer (San Ramon) will be surely branded as the carpetbagger du jour in a district less toxic toward Republicans than in his previous campaign.

I am delighted that David Harmer has chosen to run for this Congressional seat. He is a breath of fresh air and apparently Congressional District boundaries mean nothing in California or even in some other states. If a candidate leaves close enough (in this election, he lives in the same city (San Ramon), the same school district (San Ramon Valley Unified School District) as those he will represent when elected. David is bright, honest, articulate. He will make an excellent representative for us.
Next? wouldn’t the sequence be CD 10, then 11 and then 12 before you go to 13?
What’s next Harmer, District 13?
I’d like to know what single issue platform David Harmer plans to run on this time around? “No More Bailouts” is played out like Christmas lights after New Year’s.
Shame on Harmer. The only thing he has proven is he is just another politician looking for a free ride.
Enough with politicians choosing their constituents, it’s time for California conservatives to choose their own candidates, not the losers backed by other losers.
Never give up! I’m happy to see someone like Harmer continuing to fight.
You mean nasty libertarians like Guy Houston, Abram Wilson, Kris Hunt, Harmon West, Chris Bunch, and other good people I’ve supported?
I love how you guys squirm like a kommie in church everytime you feel challenged by any opposing viewpoint that hasn’t been spoon fed to you by the brilliant leaders of that ever so successful county commitee and state GOP leadership!
You’re always so ready to spill so much bile in calling people names it’s time to call in the Sham Wow Guy
David Harmer is a strong Conservative Republican. Since when did not living in a district bother California voters? Garamendi lives in Sacramento! Your comments are dismissed because everyone knows you have nothing worthy to say except squabling and throwing tantrums if your Libertarian candidates dont get elected. Halfway to Concord is the haven where Diaper Babies unite!
There may be some women in UT that might argue with you about your comment about “American Mormon slaves”.
I wonder about the expression of calling -as ‘a free American Mormon’. Has anyone found any slave American Mormons? Or are they hiding in a bag somewhere…maybe one made of dark carpet?
Proving once again that the Devil does wear Prada, I heard Harmer carries a carpet bag made by Coach, which still has more name ID than he does, and can be purchased just a little more easily.
I had to laugh as well.
He must have embraced his inner “carpetbagger” after the last election.
I had to laugh!
Carpetbagger indeed!
