In a letter and blog post today to incumbent District 1 County Supervisor John Gioia, Richmond lawyer and activist Mister Phillips, a declared candidate for the seat, called for a series of 9 candidate debates concerning issues within the supervisoral district and Contra Costa County.
Dear Supervisor Gioia:
As you know, I am running against you for the seat representing District 1 (El Cerrito, El Sobrante, East Richmond Heights, Kensington, Montalvin Manor, North Richmond, Richmond, Rollingwood, and San Pablo) on the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors.
I believe we owe the people of District 1 a frank discussion about the issues facing their community. Therefore, I challenge you to nine debates or candidate forums, one for each area of District 1, before Election Day, June 8, 2010.
Do you accept my challenge? Please respond by January 12, 2010.
Also, the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors still has not provided me with your voting record which I requested in September 2009. As you know, the clerk is required to record your votes by law; your record is public information; and the people of District 1 need your record to make an informed decision about which of us should be supervisor.
Please direct the clerk to provide me with your voting record by January 19, 2010.
If you have any questions, please call me at (510) 672-3756. Thank you.
Respectfully,
Mister Phillips
Candidate for Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors
West County, It’s Time
