At this point, about the only thing Obama could possibly do to help the economy instead of hurt it further, would be to appoint a Browser Czar.
Obama should task Al Gore—since the Vice President invented the Internet—to get people to stop using clunky, old legacy web browsers like Internet Exploder 6, that continue to pollute the Interent experience for users and webmasters.
It’s insane the number of people still using IE6! Almost 50-percent of all users are still bumbling around with IE6 causing crashes, blue screens of death, and literal havoc for web developers forced to troubleshoot browser compatibility.
These people using tech from a decade ago just don’t understand how tough it is to build a site that will support a growing number of browsers and their subsequent revisions: Opera, Chrome, 3 kinds of Safari and Firefox each, dozens of roll your own Mozillas; it’s a mess, and I demand government intervention!
To paraphrase President Obama, “there’s literally a Billion dollars laying on the street we could pick up if we socialized healthcare web browsers.” Al Gore could easily pitch the benefit of faster browsing’s impact on the environment!
Not only is it the doddering cheapskates still plodding along on their PCs, it’s corporate policy and government fiat in libraries and government offices that is holding America back. Together with a tech visionary like Al Gore, maybe this is the critical task for mankind that Obama could actually solve.
We need Al Gore to get Amrica with the program of browser modernity now!
