Music CD business is dead
November 19, 2008
Topspin CEO, and former boss of Yahoo Music, Ian Rogers, did his best recently to describe the future of the the music business. He says the CD business is dead, not the music industry, then outlines what needs to change.
Basically, Rogers calls for:
- power shift from label to artist
- “getting signed” is no longer the goal of every artist
- artists do a 360 deal with themselves
- labels need to be partners of value
- creation of potential for middle class of artists
- greater consumer choice

Got something to say?

Oh how the mighty have fallen. There was a time when record companies controlled it all. From profits to distrobution. Many artists in the prime of their careers were shut out with limited opportunity to record or distribute their products. Now with technology the playing field has been leveled and the mean old record companies are dead!! I say right on.
