A working model of a 2,000-year-old astronomical calculator, the “Antikythera Device,” incorporates discoveries announced two years ago by an international team of researchers. The model was recently demonstrated by its creator, Michael Wright, who demonstrates how the more complete device works in a video originally created on the New Scientist Website.

This gear system is very cool and not what you might expect from 2000 year old technology. It makes you wonder if the information behind its creation (gear ratio) was used spread out what other systems may have been created. instead, the uniqueness of it stands out because it did not trigger other paths in the use of gears.
