The Sacramento Bee reports that Former Contra Costa Supervisor and Assemblyman Joe Canciamilla, D-Pittsburg, who bowed out of a state Senate race earlier this year, has filed paperwork to explore a run for state attorney general in 2010.

“If Brown were to opt out of running for reelection, Canciamilla would be the first – but almost assuredly not the last – Democrat to explore running. No Republican has announced themselves as a candidate, though the 2006 nominee, former Sen. Chuck Poochigian, still has an active campaign account.

“As attorney general, Canciamilla said he would focus on getting back “to the basics.”

“That includes, he said, “relationships with local governments, crime prevention, protecting seniors, reducing the amount of white collar crime,” among other priorities. The challenge, he said, is “how we do that with less money and fewer resources.”

So many of us wanted Joe to run against DeSaulnier for the State Senate. Joe would have been an outstanding State Senator.

I am very pleased to see Joe considering a run for the Attorney General. He truly understands the impacts the state has on local government and businesses. I look forward to helping Joe.

Dear Joe Canciamilla,

Kamala Harris, San Francisco’s District Attorney, and candidate for Attorney General, received poor advice from someone and filed charges against City College of San Francisco’s former Chancellor, Dr. Philip R. Day, Jr., and two current administrators, Stephen Herman and James Blomquist. These charges must be dropped.

Thanks.

Joe has always been one of my favorite politicians, maybe my only favorite politician. I have found him honest and dedicated to doing what is best for his contituents.

I would love to see him as the AG but I don’t think he has a snowballs chance to get elected. First he has no statewide name recognition. Second, he is the black sheep in the Democrat party because he wasn’t always willing to follow the Democrat mantra at all times.

My only disappointment with Joe is when he caved in and withdrew from the race for Senate against. De Saulnier. De Saulnier is a complete disaster in the Assembly and will be just as bad in the Senate. Somehow we need to find a way to oust this person who is totally owned by the unions and who couldn’t care less about the interests of the people he purports to represent.

But back to Joe. I wish him the best should he decide to run. I certainly will support him and I know my many colleagues will too.

To the Editor:

Laura and Joe Cancimilla are fine people. They have a history of providing excellent public service.

This year, I supported Joe Canciamilla for the California State Senate. I regret that he withdrew from the primary.

For six years (from 2000 to 2006), Joe did an excellent job as a legislator in the California State Assembly. He left the Assembly because of term limits.

In 2006, I supported Laura Canciamilla for the California State Assembly. She lost the Democratic primary to another candidate. Nonetheless, she would have made an excellent assemblywoman.

Joe is active in a movement to stop construction of the Peripheral Canal, a plan that would shuttle water away from the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. The canal, if built, would send water elsewhere, endangering the environment of Contra Costa County and other nearby counties..

Laura is director of the Acalanes Adult Center, which is run by the Acalanes Union High School District. Since 2004, I have been a student at the center, which offers many helpul and useful courses. The center also has a splendid weekly lecture program. In recent years, the lecture program has been held on Tuesday nights at the center, which is located at 1963 Tice Valley Boulevard in Walnut Creek.

Joe and Laura represent the kind of political leadership that is all to often missing in America. They listen to their constituents, work hard, and do their utmost to make California a better place to live.

I would be delighted to vote for either or both of them.
