Impact of Pt Molate Casinos in Contra Costa

by BGR on November 23, 2009

Below see a PDF of the Contra Costa Health Services Department, “Public Health Impacts of the Proposed Point Molate Casino.”

The summary concludes that while counties with casino presence, gain some employment and tax revenue, they also suffer from higher rates of crime (aggravated assault and violent crime) and increased personal bankruptcies. In terms of health costs, the County report indicates notable increased costs due to rising tobacco use, asthma, traffic injuries, increased traffic and alcohol-related driving accidents; leaving drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists at much higher risk.

This looks like the kind of report the County would pay for, then, when it saw the report would try to bury it.

It raises serious questions about what the County knows about the impacts of Indian gaming at Pt Molate and how it arrived at the number it is negotiating with Indian and Union gaming interests.

Did the county already crunch the numbers so they would know how much to ask for to mitigate its share of the deletrious impacts of Indian Casino gaming at Pt Molate?

Otherwise how do they know they are getting enough shekels to make it worth their while?

If they were just guessing then look like complete idiots.

If they weren’t guessing then they ran the numbers;

so let’s produce the documents under Freedom of Information Act, and get records of who was involved!
