A group that calls itself the Taxpayer Revolution says it plans to qualify an initiative for the June 2010 ballot that would, among other things, challenge automatic citizenship for offspring of illegal aliens and curtail welfare and other benefits to undocumented residents.

The initiative is described as an effort to de-incentivize illegals from entering the country to receive welfare benefits. The group claims it is helping to save taxpayers from undue expense and hopes to promote a national debate on the topic.

REQUIRE issuance of the official “CALIFORNIA BIRTH CERTIFICATE” for births to ONLY citizens and legal permanent residents. Birth to Foreign Parent document issued to all others.

STOP 18 years of WELFARE payments to illegal aliens for their U.S. born children.
ALLOW only CITIZENS AND PERMANENT LEGAL RESIDENTS eligibility for all public benefits including non-emergency and pre-natal care.
ALLOWS Immigration and Customs Enforcement to review approved applications for federal benefits that illegal aliens are permitted to receive due to a U.S. born child. (Please see the initiative summary.)

An article in the Sacramento Bee on September 10, 2007 by Washington correspondent David Whitney summed up automatic citizenship: “Although Congress has never passed a law saying so, no president has ever ordered it, and no court has ever ruled on the issue, each of these babies automatically becomes a U.S. citizen when it takes its first breath.” This is taxpayer injustice.

Our citizen’s movement will launch the national debate we need to bring an END to AUTOMATIC CITIZENSHIP in the United States of America. The movement will uphold the recorded words and real intent of the authors of our Constitution. To the authors and the states which passed the 14th Amendment “subject to the jurisdiction” is to mean that citizens are born to parents who are “NOT subjects of a foreign power.”

The goal to stop automatic citizenship is critical toward reducing the crime problem. A major reason deported criminal illegal aliens return immediately to the United States after deportation is because they have left behind children born here. Michael Chertoff, Homeland Security, reported there are two million criminal illegal aliens.
There will never be “BORDER SECURITY” without ending automatic citizenship.

That is very much in need.

We have people who are running for congress (Brad Goehring) who admit that 40% of their work force are illegals.

I agree RF. Now if only the other side would, as its constitutional duty (not optional), defend our lawless borders and prosecute criminals that hire and/or exploit illegals, and not just pick and choose what, like you say, tickles its fancy.

Just in case you forgot:

14th amendment:

“Section 1. All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.”

Love it or leave it, you have to take it as a whole and not a hodgepodge of amendments that tickle your fancy.

women die in the arizona desert trying to have a child on american soil, every day pregnant women cross the river to have a child in an american hospital. they know having an anchor child will be a foot in the door for welfare, medicaid, food stamps, wic, and immigration judge will not likely deport them or will let them go home after a raid. young girls are encouraged to have babies for the same reason an automatic citizen. they have them while in high school, for the food stamps and tanf, medicaid, etc. this is the reason that it has to be stopped. the schools are crowded from all the illegal children cause immigration will not deport mothers. the goal is to cross and have 4 to 5 kids. this automatic lure has to stop or we will be forever paying benefits to illegals and american working like crazy to give them benefits!

There is a substantial problem with the proposal as outlined and my family is probably a good example of that problem.
I am 59 years old.
I was born in Brooklyn, NY.
My father was Born in NYC in 1922
My Grandfather was born in Italy around 1895 we are not sure.
I was raised with the erroneous information that my Grandfather was an illegal because he ran away at an early age and went to Brooklyn, but if it was true
the proposal here would mean that my father was not an American, and that I, was by extension not an American, nor my two children or two grandsons on forever.
It was exactly this sort of logic that gave us the Dread Scott decision that ruled that a negro could never be a citizen of the United States.

There are problems with illegals, this is not a solution, nor an approach that will lead to a solution.

There could be ideas of say collecting the funds spent on illegals through welfare etc. from the country of origin. There could be ideas of creating a system to bring them in from the underground economy and have them pay restitution through say payroll contributions to SS without earning benefits until a certain level that would eventually lead to reconciliation and redemption.

There could be ideas of slamming down the employment in the underground economy or the regular economy. There could be all sorts of other approaches to the problem,

however, to deny citizenship to those who are born here is a highly dangerous approach that undermines our existing citizens and opens up path ways to future divisions and disasters over time that we do not need.
