The government is raising the CAFE standards for cars to need to get on average 35 miles per gallon (currently it is 27 mpg) one of the industries applauding this move is the Auto industry. Why a few years ago they would have thrown a tantrum but not now. The reason is E85, the government in it's infinite wisdom decided that "IF" a vehicle is equipped to run on E85 (85% ethanol and 15% gasoline) then the miles acheived are only calculated on the amount of GASOLINE used. Therefore if you divide 100% fuel E85 by 15% you get a multiplier of 6.66 so lets say a Hummer gets 10 mpg but is E85 capable it is credited for 66.6 mpg. One more thing about Ethanol.
