According to Ed Wallace in a recent BusinessWeek article, Ethanol is a scam that is failing and the only help it is getting is a government bailout from the EPA requiring 15-percent Ethanol mandate. here’s some points; count ‘em
1. Ethanol actually creates more smog than using regular gas
2. Ethanol is a net energy loser
3. Ethanol laced fuels reduce fuel efficiency of the vehicle
4. Ethanol increases global warming emissions over gasoline
5. Ethanol is great for auto repairs services because it wrecks engines.
And you thought Ethanol was just being pushed by the Corn Lobby!

Come on. You people are amazing.Government bailout by the EPA!! The sound of that is ludicrous. There has never been an EPA based bailout in the history of the country. Unfortunately your readers believe this garbage. If our auto makers would put efforts into making engines that run efficiently (a $100/car investment) on ethanol we wouldn’t be talking about the bunk points you are trying to persuade people to be true. Ethanol is a clean burning, American made product that keeps American dollars in America.
One more thing about Ethanol. The government is raising the CAFE standards for cars to need to get on average 35 miles per gallon (currently it is 27 mpg) one of the industries applauding this move is the Auto industry. Why a few years ago they would have thrown a tantrum but not now. The reason is E85, the government in it’s infinite wisdom decided that “IF” a vehicle is equipped to run on E85 (85% ethanol and 15% gasoline) then the miles acheived are only calculated on the amount of GASOLINE used. Therefore if you divide 100% fuel E85 by 15% you get a multiplier of 6.66 so lets say a Hummer gets 10 mpg but is E85 capable it is credited for 66.6 mpg.
