Did you, or you and your spouse, earn less than $49,000 in 2010? If the answer is YES you may be eligible for a tax refund of up to $5,657 this year! Money you could use for needed purchases, to pay down debt or save for the future!

To determine if you are eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and to get your refund check you must file a federal income tax return – even if you would otherwise not be required to file.

RSVP to come to the workshop and find out how you can put money in your pocket.

Much too burdensome is the curent tax code. Why not have each person pay a flat-rate tax (like 10%) of income? A flat-rate tax is easy to compute. All tax computations could be done on a postcard. The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) is supposed to be a substitute for the minimum wage, curently $8 per hour in California. The EITC gives extra money to families whose earnings are below the poverty line. For example, a family earning $10,000 a year might get an EITC of $4,000. Thus, total income for the family would be $14,000 — a 40% increase. If Assemblywoman Susan Bonilla were to advocate abolishing the minimum wage and were similtaneously to favor replacing the minimum wage with the EITC, then one might want to hear more ideas from Ms. Bonilla.
