CRA urges anti-gay hate vote

The California Republican Assembly, the supposed “conscience of the Republican Party in California: is calling on Republicans to call specific California Senators to vote NO on SB 572, a bill that would recognize May 22 Harvey Milk Day and “encourage” schools to “commemorate” the life and career of this homosexual San Francisco politician as part of the school day.

“CRA officers have learned that some Republican Legislators in the State Assembly may do the unthinkable,” said CRA President Ken Mettler. “This is unacceptable; this notion that Republicans would actually lend their support to a bill that paves the way for schools to learn about homosexual politicians and their sexual lifestyle.”

One could only wish that the CRA would spend as much energy fixing the California budget as they do whipping up anti-gay vitriolic such as this. Once again, instead of working for a peaceful, pluralistic society based on justice and the common good, we witness the civil religion of those that would fight against recognizing any diversity in California other than those who bow to the idolatry that the U.S. is some Puritan lost tribe of Israel. Mistakenly, these folks—who, apparently think themselves Gods—believe they alone have the right to exercise historic, formative power in society.

If Californians worked half as hard to pluralize California’s school instead of screaming about the other guy and trying to use the State to pass discriminatory laws against our neighbors, then we wouldn’t have these sorts of problems. But no. Both the paleolithic neanderthals and the lawless libertines both want to control us all.

Well put Edi and BGR.

What works in Texas doesn’t work in California. I think a huge problem with the state party is the message of “Don’t vote for them because they are bad.” We need to tell people why and what makes us better.

Politics is the most expensive form of entertainment that my money is forced to buy. For a political party that has demonstrated repeatedly that their closets (and public bathroom stalls) are rather filled with repressed individuals hiding from their own sexual activities, it never fails to amuse me how the Republicans continue to pounce on anything homosexual.

I have been following the Congressional District 10 debates/forums in the Democratic clubs, there is one candidate Anthony Woods who is Gay and ended his West Point started and decorated military career over Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. However in the last debate he hardly brought it up except in casual passing. This for the simple issue that in the audience of Democrats, no one really cares.

Some day the Republicans will get the message, but in the meantime, I just wish that they were at least come up with some new material as I am getting tired of laughing at their tired old joke of a policy.
