The West Contra Costa Unified School District (WCCUSD) Board of Education recognized Chevron Corporation (NYSE: CVX of San Ramon California, for its investments in K-12 education in West County.
Among other activities:
- Chevron donated $60,000 to the WCCUSD through DonorsChoose.org, a nonprofit organization, to support science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) oriented classroom project requests submitted by public school teachers in West Contra Costa County.
- Fully sponsored three WCCUSD math/science teachers to attend the Exploratorium Summer Teacher Institute and New Teacher Program, a 2 year comprehensive program that will begin in the fall of 2010. The institute focuses on physics, middle-high school general science, life science and mathematics and supports the content described in the National and California State Standards.
- With $50,000 in funding from Chevron, and another $10,000 in annual support after implementation, we are currently working with the WCCUSD on an implementation and integration plan for Project Lead-the-Way (PLTW) into their Engineering Academy Program at Richmond High School. PLTW’s goal is to increase the number, quality, and diversity of engineers graduating from our educational system.
- In the summer of 2010, Chevron will be funding the Chevron Mathematics Achievement Academy Program for the first time through a partnership with California State University East Bay and ACCLAIM (Alameda County Collaborative for Learning and Instruction in Mathematics).
