Jeremy Cloward, Ph.D. (G – Pleasant Hill), has filed his candidate papers for the upcoming 10th Congressional District special election for the seat of Rep. Ellen Tauscher (D – Alamo), who resigned from Congress on June 27 to move to a Cabinet position.
Cloward says this race is “an exciting opportunity for alternative parties like the Greens because, if no candidate wins over 50% of the vote, the top vote-getters in all parties go on to run in a Special General Election. All voters in District 10 will win, because more choices will be available to them.”
Gov. Schwarzenegger has set September 1 for the Special Primary Election. The Special General Election, if needed, is set for November 3.
Cloward, an adjunct professor of political science at Diablo Valley College, is campaigning to promote a “more just and equal society.” He goes on to elaborate, “The issues that are important to all of us, such as single payer healthcare, affordable quality education, and ending the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, need to be addressed by people and a party that are actually willing to address them. The Green Party of the United States, my staff, and myself, have a plan to address and resolve each issue.”
Among Cloward’s endorsers is Dr. Michael Parenti, prolific author and lecturer who is generally considered to be one of the top three progressive scholars in the United States.

Re: The $106 billion – There went the chance for the Democrat controlled Congress to end the police actions in the Middle East. So much for all that *change* we were promised.
Why not approve funding that says, this is it, were are out of here inside of six-months?
