CA-11 GOP candidates respond to Massachusetts Senate victory

What does the Scott Brown Senate victory in Massachusetts mean for California? Jeff Takada and Brad Goehring, two of the leading GOP candidates vying for the chance to beat incumbent Democrat Jerry McNerney (CA-11) in November, are pysched about yesterday’s stunning upset as Republican Scott Brown was elected Senator from the bluest of blue states, Massachusetts. Halfway To Concord asked the candidates what they thought the “shot heard round the world” might mean for the 11th Congressional Race this coming November.

JEFF TAKADA

Scott Brown has done what no commentator thought possible a few months ago. This is almost like the Red Sox winning the Series – now Bostonians and Republicans can celebrate together; not just a stunning upset and victory, but the first steps on a long road to freeing our country from the self-important, encrusted politicos who view the public vote as a plaything and not the lion’s roar of a sovereign people.

The motto of my dark horse candidacy to beat liberal Democrat Jerry McNerney in Congressional District 11 is “Take back the Hill.” Its a war cry and a call to action and the people of one of the most left-leaning states in the Union just joined the chorus.

Let’s make CD-11, the hottest Congressional race in California

Wouldn’t it be great if we here in CD-11 could be part of the army of conservative, Constitution-grounded voters reclaiming their party and Capitol Hill for limited government, sound money, and individual liberty? I think that’s a possibility. Republican Chairman Steele said it won’t be possible, but I feel that the frustration, tension and disappointment in government as usual has reached a boiling point.

The Massachusetts Senate vote was the shot heard round the world. Let’s make CD-11, the hottest Congressional race in California, the Gettysburg, the Midway, the D-Day – the turning point – of the encroaching leftist tide.

Let’s “Take back the Hill” in November.

BRAD GOEHRING

Brown campaigned against the government takeover of healthcare, cap and trade and the $700 billion dollar stimulus that has failed to stimulate the economy. Voters are clearly rejecting the big government agenda being pursued by the Obama Administration first in Virginia and New Jersey and now in the Democrat stronghold of Massachusetts, a clear sign that Jerry McNerney faces defeat this November.

By supporting the government takeover of healthcare Jerry McNerney has put playing politics ahead of working to fix our economy and create jobs.

People are tired of the federal government’s role in our lives and they want less…less taxes, less spending, and less regulation. Brown’s victory shows that message is being embraced by all Americans and is bridging the partisan divide. Jerry McNerney is on the wrong side of those issues and the people of the 11th district, and we will hold him accountable for his unquestioned loyalty to the Pelosi agenda in this campaign.

By supporting the government takeover of healthcare Jerry McNerney has put playing politics ahead of working to fix our economy and create jobs. What’s even worse is it has stifled job creation in the private sector as employers are terrified of adding to payrolls with these threats of more government taxes and regulation. I am committed to rebuilding our economy through fiscal responsibility and unburdening our citizens by reducing taxes and regulations. I am confident the voters support that agenda and not the Mcnerney-Pelosi agenda.

The similarities I was referring to was the nature of the coverage as a substance of effect on the person to be covered regardless of the origin.
To put it another way, on the issue is Health Care, Brown supported the Mass. health plan. As far as I can see NONE of the GOP folks in the 11th would support a Health Care plan like Mass for California regardless if it was from the state or the Feds.
The constitutional issue which is an intense hot button for a subset in the GOP such as yourself, is secondary here, people want health care.
My point remains that the GOP candidates are opposed to the MA health care that Brown supported.
Now if they are in support of government (state) health care like MA then maybe that should be one of their public speaking points. But somehow I doubt it.

I love it when leftys like Edi think that a state run healthcare program is the same as a federally managed program. It’s pretty simple, universal government funded healthcare is nowhere in the enumerated powers of the constitution. It’s up to states if they wish to ruin their own, more localized, economy.

Edi, this was not just about healthcare and you know it. Did you hear the crowd when Brown said government should use tax dollars to fight terrorists instead of hiring lawyers for them? Best get your head out of your ass or sand or whatever Dems do when in morbid denial.

Coakely was a good candidate with more on the ball than “Robert Byrd, Patty Murray, Kirsten Gillibrand, Jim Bunning, Roland Burris, Tom Harkin, and Barbara Boxer, to name a few.”

GOP pundits seem to overlook a few issues-Brown is pro-choice, Brown voted FOR the Massachusetts Health Care which is more extensive than what was planned in Washington. That is a very different background from what any of the CD11 folks will be dealing with. It is one thing to say the Federal plan is no good when you already have something better and another to cheer for no Federal plan when you have nothing.
That combined with a horrible lethargic campaign run by Coakley also is a major contributor to the defeat, which is not exactly the track record of McNerney.
