Is archery protected by the Second Amendment? Open Carry of bows and arrows? Are powerful, semi-automatic armor-piercing compound bows the equivalent of automatic weapons? Board of Supervisors in Tights! Arne Simonsen sends the alert below that the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors plans to restrict archery to government specified ranges; and does not exclude schools or scouting from its ban. See details

Please see attached information about County Supervisor’s action scheduled for tomorrow (Tuesday, July 13th) to restrict archery (and bow hunting) to only public/private ranges in CCC. As written, it does not allow for temporary ranges set up for school, scout, and other organized programs. The Contra Costa Sheriffs Office has no data to justify this prohibition. Please contact your Contra Costa County Supervisor if this would impact programs your organizations now provide.

Hunters don’t kill deer, arrows do! See Ordance # 2010-12

Few laws ever get overturned, so don’t count on that for any relief for any law. Does the BOS have nothing else to do, just like SF banning plastic bags, and other vital issues governments deal with these days. This country is lost.

Where it says, “any arrow or arrowhead from any bow,” what in blazes are they talking about? Do they think that someone might nock an arrowhead (sans arrow) and let fly at some one/thing/felon/animal/innocent bystander?

They obviously don’t have the slightest idea about archery and the skill involved.

Any moron can shoot a gun (and many do) but archery demands skill and discipline, things sorely lacking in the BOS.

Pass ordnance with no data to justify this? Schools used to have archery clubs I can recall. I used to shoot at targets in my backyard, sad. Its simply diminishing freedoms in a world of paranoia and excessive government in peoples lives. Things like this is what gives California a bad name while other states laugh at us.

Girl Scouts summer camp includes Archery. It’s a great way to build a Girl’s self esteem! It builds listening skills, following directions, and consequences of your actions. My girls’ were so proud of themselves after their archery lessons. My 7 year old got a Bulls-Eye! She was so proud of her accomplishment! Who knew a 7 year old could be such a great listener, follow directions and achieve a goal?!!

Ridiculous! Can government interfere in our private lives anymore? Pretty please! I mean I can still step out onto my patio for a smoke on my own private property for the time being until that is outlawed. Unbelievable…

Sure, pick on little Cub Scouts. They don’t vote – but I’ll bet their parents will, and this stupid piece of legislation can be overturned.
