April Fool’s roundup

shut-up-fool

April Fool’s Day was a whirl, here, admid threats from Congressional offices and calls from reporters, and traffic from national sites with some nifty page rank.

Thanks to all who suggested or contributed their own prank. One wimp in particular will remain unnamed. So, until next year, here’s a roundup of some of the interesting stats and observations gleaned from yesterday’s foray into blogging madness.

nytimesA number of sites picked up the Tauscher wedding nuptials and made it onto several lists noting high-profile pranks for the day including:

Columbia Journalism Review (barely neutral)
New York Times (screen shot nearby)
Village Voice (disdain)
Calitics (guarded disdain)
Some dying newspaper in Washington (Couer d’Alene!)
VodkaPundit (loved it)
Fire Dog Lake (many hahas)
DayLife (boring neutrality)
Bear Flag Blue (choking on neutrality)
Wall Street Journal with photo of Johnny Carson; what a hoot! (apr 2)
ReTweeted by thegoldfarb of Weekly Standard

It’s instructive to see how partisanship and gender influence crackpot theories about what is or isn’t humourous. Clearly the Bluedogs hated it and and aimed clearly to discredit the piece derisively as infantile or only good for a laff in a survivalist camp.

gm-wsjThe Nader GM piece made it to the Wall Street Journal

Lies, damned lies, and statistics

For the day (measured GMT:00:00) over 4,100 unique visitors.

Top stories read were (uniques thru 4/2 12:00 PDST):
Tauscher to wed bin-Laden, 3,366
Obama taps Nader as GM CEO, 184
Jet Blue lands in Concord, 90
Michelle Obama’s butt’s so big, 79
Blog to ID anonymous posters, 76

So it looks like you guys went for the visceral belly laugh, afterall. Interesting to note that the several strange but true pieces U.N. bans free speech; Sully iPhone app), scattered throughout did not generate much interest. And no one’s going to fall for Seeno giving up anything.

So there you have it for this year.

Please share your crackpot ideas about what is or isn’t a good April Fool joke, and sharpen your pencils cause it happens every year!
