agopian to face glover in november runoff

Antioch School Board member, Gary Agopian, will most likely face incumbent Federal Glover for the Contra Costa County District 5 Supervisor seat following the untimely death of Erik Nunn in a Nevada plane crash, June 28. According to Section 8807 of California Election law, the candidate with the next highest number of votes in the non-partisan primary would replace a vacancy. In this case Agopian, the third place finisher, would replace Nunn on the ballot.

Such a runoff promises to be a spirited campaign, as Agopian, in a 5-candidate field, came on strong in the closing days of the June 3rd California Primary. According to campaign consultant Dan Lee, “There was a big shift in momentum in the closing days of the campaign in the 5th. Gary Agopian’s percentage jumped 7.7% from the Absentees to the ballots cast on Election Day. This kind of momentum is seldom seen. In spite of being out spent 6 to 1, Agopian did carry Antioch, as the top vote-getter. Antioch is 50% of the district.”
