For the last five years Republicans have been played for stooges by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. Gov. Schwarzenegger has left California Republicans hanging out to dry with his self-centered attitude and amateurism when it comes to politics.
One of the tenants of politics is, if I carry water (ie. put my neck neck out) for you on a bill or some other issue that is important to you and the State you will help me when the time comes.
Because he is an actor and not a leader, Gov. Schwarzenegger has yet to grasp this basic rule of politics. A case in point was in 2006 when State Senator Abel Madonado carried water for him on the minimum wage increase and he was paid back by Gov. Schwarzenegger in his 2006 race for state controller by Gov. Schwarzenegger ignoring him. Maldonado lost in the primary.
So here we sit today and California on the brink of financial disaster and Gov. Schwarzenegger needs one Republican vote so who does he turn to but his old friend Senator Madonado. Abel ought to send the Terminator a message and tell Schwarzenegger this time for all of us California Republicans who were sold a load of crap in 2003 and 2006 to DROP DEAD!
The plan’s prospects all but died Sunday morning when Sen. Abel Maldonado, in an interview with the Mercury News, seemed to rule out voting for the measure while pointedly criticizing Schwarzenegger as well as the Republican Senate leader, Dave Cogdill, of Fresno. A moderate Republican whose district stretches from Silicon Valley to San Luis Obispo County, Maldonado was seen as the last best hope for the final GOP vote needed to get the deficit plan over the two-thirds hump.
“I’ve always been a person who’s been open-minded and tried to bring both sides together,” Maldonado said. “But on this one, where they’re asking for almost $15 billion in tax increases, it just goes against what I believe in my heart and my values.” Maldonado added, “There’s nothing they can give me that would make me vote for this budget.” The senator went on to question the leadership of Schwarzenegger and Cogdill.
Maldonado and Schwarzenegger have a tense relationship: In 2006, the senator publicly criticized the governor for not backing his unsuccessful campaign for state controller.

RINOS like Madonado and Schwarzenegger are the cause of Republican Ruination. We conservatives are always sold out by the RINOS in the room. We must purge the Republican party of RINOS and build a pure party of super conservative values. An American Talaban where we have only the pure of heart run for office. If we lose fine as long as we stand on our principals until the people come our way!
~ EDITOR CLICKS HEELS — For a second there, I thought you wrote, “pure race of supermen” but alas, you were just making fun of Republicans.
My bad.
So much for taking a tough stance on tax increases. This is yet another broken campaign promise added to a never-ending list of broken campaign promises by R.I.N.O.s in office.
It seems a lot of things change in a few days, as Abel goes over to the Arnold side after all. Politics, don’t you just love it. Still remains the most expensive form of entertainment our can buy, whether we want it to or not.
You hang in there, Abel. Don’t give in on a single issue. Finally !, a republican with some gonads.
