In its letter of November 10, a report from the county’s Hazardous Material Program was presented to the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors. The report concluded that Contra Costa County refineries have had their safest year ever.

Shell Oil Refinery, ConocoPhillips, Tesoro Refinery, and Chevron refinery were all recognized for their commitment to industrial safety.

According to a Chevron spokesperson, “the County’s Industrial Safety Ordinance is one component of a large robust safety program at the refinery. To protect the health and safety of its employees and the community is a core value to Chevron.”

Below a letter from the Committee for Industrial Safety as well as excerpts from the county’s 2009 Safety Ordinance Report.
